Dynamic Sketch II – Week 8

Week 8 is a recap and polishing of previous work. We retouch and organize the best pieces from previous weeks and present them all with a consistent layout.
My final design project for the class is the completed “Atlantean Hovercraft”.

Dynamic Sketch II – Week 7

In week 7, the class goes to the Chino Air Museum to focus on Airplanes. While I could not make to the museum, I drew from photo references and posted my work-in-progress for an “Atlantean Hovercraft”.

Dynamic Sketch II – Week 6

In week 6, we visit the American Military Museum to draw Military Vehicles. Continuing the Atlantis/Center of the Earth story, I design an “Atlantean Deep Sea Submarine”

Dynamic Sketch II – Week 5

In week 5, we visit The Nethercutt Museum to draw Classic Cars

Dynamic Sketch II – Week 4

In week 4, the class goes to the LA Zoo to focus on Animals. While I could not make to the zoo, I drew from photo reference. My creature redesign project for this week consists of fleshing out the skeleton designed on week 3.

Dynamic Sketch II – Week 3

In week 3, we pay another visit to the Natural History Museum in LA , and this time we study their Bones and Fossils collection. We also start polishing our ideation and redesign process by developing more thumbnails and ideas.

Dynamic Sketch II – Week 2

In week 2, we visit the Natural History Museum in LA to check out their insect collection.  Aside from drawing insects, we start developing a “background story” from which all our redesign projects can be based off.

I chose to follow an imaginary spin off between Disney’s Atlantis and Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Dynamic Sketch II – Week 1

From February to april 2014, I took the 8-week CGMA Class Dynamic Sketching I with Peter Han.

Week 1 is a recap from Dynamic Sketching 1, and it focuses on warmup exercises with lines, ellipses, textures and organic shapes.

Highlights from Dynamic Sketching I

From October to December 2013, I took the 8-week CGMA Class Dynamic Sketching I with Patrick Ballesteros.

Week 1: Warmups

Week 1 focuses on developing confidence with the pen by drawing and tracing straight, curved and zigzag lines, as well as ellipses.

Week 2: Organic Shapes

In week 2, we study organic forms, contour lines and texture gradations.

Week 3: Geometric Forms & Basic Shading

In week 3, we free-hand cubes and other shapes in perspective – no rulers allowed!

Week 4: Combining Shapes

In week 4, we start practicing shape intersections as well sketching household objects

Weeks 5 & 6: Plants

In weeks 5 and 6, we draw plants from photo reference and from life.

Week 7: Creature Redesign Part 1

In week 7, we start studying reference and incorporate it into an original concept: We redesign a creature based off the characteristics of a plant.

Week 8: Creature Redesign Part 2

After receiving feedback from our teacher, we improve and process and have a second stab at the creature redesign.
